SMART.remark - Thoughtful Disagreement (1600 × 921 px)

Disagreement in the workplace is inevitable as we all come to the table with different ideas, perspectives, and experiences.  Instead of viewing disagreement as uncomfortable and something to be avoided, healthy teams welcome conflict and understand a respectful exchange of ideas is key to innovation and success.

How you engage in disagreement is key to a positive outcome. Start with separating yourself from your idea.  “You are not your idea, and if you identify too closely with your ideas, you will take offense when they are challenged.”  If your idea is not adopted, it’s not personal or a rejection of you, so don’t let your emotions take over.  View the goal as moving forward with the best idea whether it’s yours or someone else’s.
