Cyber-Security at Home

The Safer at Home order means a greatly increased number of employees are working remotely. Unfortunately, we are also seeing a corresponding increase in phishing and other cyber- attacks. Today, we need to be extra vigilant to ensure we are protecting both our personal and our clients’ data while working from home. Here are a few reminders of good security practices:

• Look closely at the Sender’s name, it’s often very close to an email address you’re familiar with.
• Pay extra attention when the email is coming from outside of your organization.
• Don’t click on links or open attachments unless it is a trusted source. If in doubt, call the organization who the email is supposed to be from to verify, or type the website address into a new web browser page without clicking on the link.
• Be extra wary of emails that have grammatical errors or poor use of English.
• Never give out any private information, passwords or secure information in response to an unsolicited email.

Client Data
• Use only secure networks when accessing client systems or data outside of work.
• Don’t send client proprietary data or information from your work to your home email or your personal laptop.
• Don’t print information from work at home (some clients will see this as a violation of confidentiality).
• Always honor all confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements as if you were at the client site working.

Video Conferencing
• Verify and exercise caution when accepting or setting up video meetings.
• Utilize a password for video meetings to prevent random access.
