Job Description

We are searching for an Infrastructure Engineer II for a direct-hire position with a well-respected company, with exceptional benefits, in Madison, WI. In this role, you would become the go-to person to support and manage the infrastructure that includes data and voice networking, server, storage, security, and a variety of core applications. Your area of expertise includes supporting Cisco VoIP technologies, collaboration tools, and cloud storage solutions. Every day your team will take on a variety of troubleshooting and solving technical challenges. 

The Infrastructure Engineer hired into this role will take on more of the elaborate technical challenges, lead and participate in project initiatives, and act as a vital participant in the administration of our security framework to support our customers fully. You have outstanding verbal and written communication skills that relate to technical and non-technical audiences. 

 Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Professional and promptly handle customer requests and problems 
  • Troubleshoot incidents and requests for all systems, networks, and security technologies across the organization
  • Keep up with the infrastructure environments by performing daily operational tasks of monitoring and responding to alerts using various applications and technologies
  • Utilize decision-making authority as it relates to resolving system outages according to business and management expectations
  • Present recommendations for process improvements and standards 
  • Act as the subject matter expert in various infrastructure platforms and partake in an on-call rotation for after-hours support (there is an expectation to work off hours for planned and unplanned events related to infrastructure support)
  • Participate and lead mid to large-sized internal technical projects following project management methodologies
  • Administration of the organization’s core network, voice, Windows servers, Linux servers, security, Exchange, Office 365 infrastructure, and more
  • Expertly handle voice infrastructure, collaboration tools, and cloud storage solutions; proactively monitor and address alerts for various infrastructure systems

Additional Duties:

  • Partner with the hosting provider to manage the health and implement changes of virtualized environments and network infrastructure; examine and respond to results reported on daily backup reports and storage reports
  • Create and maintain infrastructure-related procedures and run books
  • Oversee design and implementations of infrastructure hardware and software implementations and upgrades
  • Act as an interface between internal customers and hosting providers regarding organization-wide application support and implementations
  • Participate, and possibly lead, components of the annual disaster recovery tests for critical business systems
  • Manage and monitor infrastructure security patches based on vulnerability alerts; examination and plan vulnerability patches and software security updates
  • Participate or lead components of the company’s incident response team; analyze and translate security and system logs, perform security forensics on the server and network layers and report detailed findings while providing guidance
  • Research and implement tools and processes that expand the company’s security portfolio and framework
  • Cooperate and work with other teams and vendors

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree (or higher) in Information Technology, Computer Science or relative experience that provides equivalent knowledge and skills
  • 4+ years of experience in hands-on support of network, server, storage, and security devices
  • 4+ years of experience supporting and troubleshooting:
    • Cisco routers, switches, wireless controllers, access points, virtual private networks
    • Server virtualization using VMware
    • Storage experience using NAS, SAN technologies
    • Windows Server OS, through version 2016
    • Linux OS
    • Active Directory, Exchange (through Exchange Online) administration
    • Windows scripting
    • Box or other cloud storage solutions
    • Cisco WebEx or other collaboration tools
    • Cisco Call Manager, Unity voicemail, and Jabber
    • Experience managing voice and data circuits through telecommunication providers
    • Experience with replication tools, Cisco ISE, and intrusion detection (desired but not required)

 Additional Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of customer service experience
  • Solid technical background administrating and supporting VMware, Microsoft Server OS, Active Directory, Exchange, and a variety of infrastructure applications
  • Ability to work in an environment that requires the balance of simultaneously working on support and project initiatives 
  • Work well with a variety of teammates and customers
