Application Database Architect III

Smart Solutions seeks an experienced Application Database Architect III for a six-month contract opportunity with a prominent Madison, WI company. The application Database Architect will work closely with an application development team and project manager to design, code, test, and migrate existing DB2 data into SQL Server as new web applications are developed and released. The primary duties will be to work on two different databases (DB2 and SQL Server), including CDC and SSIS packages. The Data Architect will create SSIS packages to support CDC and perform ETL from CDC tables to History tables without losing any data. Depending on the candidate’s experience, they may help develop core backend .NET code using C#. Smart Solutions offers a comprehensive benefits package along with the option for paid time off! 

Job Duties: 
  • Develop, implement, and optimize in-application SQL statements, stored procedures, and functions using T-SQL
  • Utilize proficiency with SQL and its variation among popular databases
  • Create database triggers for use in automation
  • Design databases and ensuring their stability, reliability, and performance
  • Design, write and modify SQL Server database to improve application processing from mainframe to web-based application, data transfer to internal databases, and the processing of the application data
  • Data architecture, creation of MS SQL tables, views, triggers, and other objects required for web application using MS SQL Server 2014, 2016 and 2017
  • Design better T-SQL queries with experience in query optimization and performance tuning
  • Use SQL Profiler, Execution Plan, Performance Monitor, Indexes, and DBCC Commands
  • Achieve high application performance by performing some system administration tasks like developing shell scripts that solved frequent application hangs
  • Develop complex functions, scripts, stored procedures, and triggers to support application development using T-SQL
  • Responsible for guidelines and standards for DB usage, manageability, and maintainability 
  • Build and support database models using SQL Server to support web application
  • Construct and design documents and documentation to aid in maintenance and code reuse following team processes and standards
  • Develop strong working relationships with managers and analysts
  • Analyze data needs and independently develop logical and physical data models
Additional Job Duties: 
  • Coordinate the implementation of database application components
  • Interact with key partners and internal users regarding timelines, technical issues, and infrastructure integration.
  • Create and maintain Change Data Capture to keep track of the history of data on each table in SQL Server
  • Coordinate and participate in application testing and quality inspections
  • Modifying databases according to requests from managers and performing tests to identify ways to solve database usage concerns and malfunctions
  • Construct C#.NET objects such as Data Reader, Dataset, and Data Adapter, for consistent access to SQL data sources
  • Using C#.NET objects such as Connection Object, Command Object, Data Reader Object, Dataset Object, and Data Adapter Object to access SQL Server 2014/2016/2017 databases
  • Create class diagrams, sequence diagrams, implementing design patterns, and write software architecture documents
  • Schedule Ctrl M Jobs to run the SQL Stored procedures based on global parameters from COBOL Stored procedures
Requirements: 
  • Develop, implement, and optimize in-application SQL statements, stored procedures, and functions using T-SQL
  • Solid proficiency with SQL and its variation among popular databases
  • Ability to create database triggers for use in automation
  • Experience and expertise in leading large and complex data migration projects
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server, T-SQL, Visual Studio, and C#, CDC and SSIS 
  • Exceptional communication skills and be a team player
  • Self-organizing and proficient with executing data migration activities independently, demonstrate extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Desired Skills: 
  • Candidates with business knowledge and prior experience with the CARES system or familiarity with State of Wisconsin application systems, procedures, and development standards
